Mobile Drive-Ins

Yes, drive-in movies on the go.
Yeah, I know, it sounds impossible, but, no, it’s really real and true and Mobile Movies as brought to us by Cool Hunter. In this case, we’re talking about MobMov. Like flash mobs, these folks organize guerrilla mobile drive-in movies, thrown together on the fly in cities, hopefully, near you.
I love the idea of this, not that I have the money to get the required projection equipment. I mean, showing movies on walls from inside a car? Brilliant! I’ve always adored movies as a shared, group art-experience, but this whole, crazy, rolling movie community is just tremendous. At the second site I linked to, they have suggestions for where to show the movies as well as how to show them and even where to get the movies on a royalty-free basis! So, as wacky as it seems, you wouldn’t even really be breaking the law. How fabulous is that?!

Hey, it’s Friday, what do you want from me? C’mon, admit it, you’d love to see a free movie in an alley tonight, wouldn’t you? Why not click the link and see what it’s all about?

  1. hello ,

i am from new delhi , india . we have a drive-in in mumbai , but not a
single one in new delhi .

to search for a drive-in in my city of which i might not be knowing , i
spent some time in surfing over the net for a drive-in in my city .

although , i did not find any drive-ins’s located in new delhi . but i
sure did find a new approach for drive-ins’s about which i read at
    http://www.mobmov.org .

they are already present in the usa , canada and australia . other
upcoming venues are in germany , brazil , indonesia and other places .

i have written to them showing my desire for starting a delhi chapter
and they have response was very encouraging .

the best part about them is they are free and they inform us about the
    shows held every fortnight .

hope you all enjoy the experince , as i am waiting to start my own
    drive-in chapter .

    happy mobbing .

  2. Wow, I hadn’t thought of it from an international perspective before, so thanks for commenting! I have to admit, there’s something about showing Bollywood movies via a free drive-in that just seems very right and cool. I hope you’re able to make a really good, strong local mobmov group there. After all, in many ways, New Delhi is the new tech center of the world. At least, for the web and more “arty” kinds of things, from what I see and understand. Sort of the Indian San Francisco.
    Have fun and good luck!

  3. Gah! I’m so far behind in my visitations.
But I’m glad I came here today, because it reminded me that I wanted to go to the drive in this weekend. 🙂 Where else can you see ‘RV’, ‘Mission Impossible III’, and ‘Silent Hill’, all for $5 each? Plus you can take your own food & drinks…
