Pros You Should Know

No, not geek professionals, in this case.

Normally, I don’t blatantly promote other people who aren’t either ultra-cool geeks or paying me money, but, in this case, I’ll make an exception.
I’m really into photography.  I wasn’t always, but the December after I finished chemotherapy, I bought my first digital SLR camera.  It cost what I thought of as a small fortune, but it was worth it.  Shortly after that, I took a couple of seminars.  One from the ever popular Joe McNally and another one by a guy named Syl Arena.  The class I took eventually became the book [amazon_link id=”032171105X” target=”_blank” ]The Speedliter’s Handbook[/amazon_link] and is pretty much THE book to have for someone shooting with Canon Speedlites.  The class, and book, were fantastic.  Syl was a genius teacher and a really nice, patient guy, too.
Well, he’s the inaugural “pro” on the Pros You Should Know feature at the Borrowlenses.com blog.  It’s worth checking out, not just for him, but for the rest of their blog, too.

And, if you’re not into photography, I apologize for not having something for you this week.  If you ARE, though, trust me and go read up on Syl Arena.  It’s worth it!

Extend your Kindle

But, sadly, not for the software Kindle apps.

Okay so these two tools I’m going to share only work for the Kindle, and mostly rely on the ability to e-mail documents to your Kindle, but SendtoReader works with a Manual Delivery option, too.  SendtoReader is a web app that lets you send any webpage to your Kindle for later perusal.  Though, as I mentioned, you need to have an actual Kindle if you want to update it without synching via a PC first.
I have to admit, I was all excited about this web app, until I went to sign up for it and discovered that the Android app on my ColorNook wasn’t able to get e-mail directly from Amazon’s on-line document delivery service.  Still, if you’re using an actual Kindle, this would be a killer app.

And, ToDo list for Kindle is, well, a to do list that you can send to, and update, on your Kindle.  So, you know, pretty much what it seems like it would be from the title.

So, there you go.  Two free web apps to get more out of your Kindle, just in time for the weekend!
Enjoy!

So, if you’re like me, last week when you were thinking about setting a couple New Year’s Resolutions, you were thinking about money.

No, seriously!  Ok, granted, I was thinking about money that I don’t have, but, still, money seems to be on everyone’s minds these days.  Between the economy, which has tanked, and Christmas, which most of us will be paying off for a couple months yet, a little extra cash would be welcome, wouldn’t it?  Well, a great step would be to cut things out of your budget that you don’t really need.  Of course, that would mean having a budget, wouldn’t it?

Fear not!  The Consumerist has just the tool for you!  Yes, now you, too, can download the Consumerist’s Free Easy Excel Budget Spreadsheet and make your very own, personal budget!
Of course, the real trick is [amazon_link id=”0553382020″ target=”_blank” ]sticking to that budget[/amazon_link] once you make it.
Well, at least it’s a start!
