Keep Theives From Preying On Your Laptop

Pardon the pun, but I hope it got your attention.

If you’re like most people who read this blog, you probably have at least one laptop.  Now, it may run Windows or Mac or even Linux, but, you likely have one and you wonder what might happen if it gets stolen.  Wonder no more.

Now, there’s free, Open Source software called Prey, hence the pun, that will track your stolen laptop.

Photo Enlarger

Enlarging photographs is harder than it seems.

No, seriously, getting a section of a digital picture enlarged without introducing all sorts of photographic “noise” is far, far more difficult than you might suppose.  When zooming in, the edges get jagged far more quickly than people realize, even when you’re using a fancy-dancy Canon 5D Mark II and shooting in RAW mode.  (No, I don’t have one either, but I so, so am saving my nickels and dimes to get one!)  So, what is a creative photographer to do?  Simple, use SmillaEnlarger, free, opensource software available on Source Forge.

Is that Ubuntu in your pocket?

Or are you just happy to be using opensource software?

I never know if I should capitalize “opensource”. Should it be OpenSource? Gah, I hate stuff like that!
But, I love Linux. I may not be incredibly well versed in the ways of Ubuntu, but, that’s okay because now I can download a free pocket guide to Ubuntu in PDF format. Of course, you could buy the $10 print version, but why?

So, c’mon you Linux geeks and wannabe Linux geeks! Go get it!
